If you want to write, the most important thing I have to tell you is this: follow your urgency to the end of the earth. It is one thing that you cannot fake.
Much of what I would tell you, if we were sitting down face to face, is all about the guts and fire and truth of it. The fact that you’re about to set off on a journey to write a raw and brave and beautiful story. A story we need to read. A story that will, without overstating things, have the power to save and heal. To make someone, on a very dark night, feel less alone in this world.
So find that urgency and hold it and coax it into a fire and then write the hell out of it.
