None of us is solely the best or worst of ourselves. Our higher selves & our shadow beings like to nestle together & do a badass bump and grind on the dance floor. It’s after hours at the club, & there’s a full-on ecstatic rave going on in the center of the floor. It’s all heat & sweat & pounding bass. Bodies so intertwined you can’t tell where one ends & the other begins. There’s the good & the bad & the sex & the shame & the want & the guilt & the freedom & the chains – all right there in the sliver of space where skin presses on skin. This is what it is to live with the duality of our humanity. It’s sweaty & messy & terrifying. It’s pure & good & true. It’s the white-hot center of the paradox. It gets us into desperate trouble & it saves us, over & over & over again. Yes, somewhere in the midst of this dance —our deviance & beauty & fuckups & bliss & every last tear down—we grab hands with our own darkness, welcome it home, & take a step forward, every last bit of us deserving the light. Every last bit of you is deserving of the light, love. Every last bit.
